Dandy Endorsement: Horizontal Stripes

Last spring I accompanied Rose Callahan as she photographed Robert E. Bryan, author of the book American Fashion Menswear and former men's fashion director for The New York Times Magazine. Robert mentioned his love of horizontal stripe shirts. He looked smashing in them and I loved the look.

Last week Valet Mag did a piece on horizontal stripes: they're "having a moment."

And then this week Sean Hotchkiss featured men's clothier Domenico Spano on the GQ blog. And wouldn't you know it, he's wearing a horizontal stripe shirt. Note to self: invest in horizontal stripe shirts.

We're chuckling over Dream Of The 1890's from the tv series Portlandia in which the hipsters sing about the late 19th century lifestyle they've adopted (guys shave with straight razors, everyone carves their own ice cubes, etc.). Of course particularly of note is the lyric "the dandy hobo has a home in Portland".
